If I submit a piece to your group, and you reject it that's fine. Unless I see your group is full of crappy images shot by your buddies and badly retouched, in which case I won't bother again. Similarly, if you have lots of HDR pictures that are gauche and overdone, I'm probably delisting you right now. I agree with the photographers who say it stands for Horribly Disgusting Results.
And if I see another bloody image shot at f1.8 and 50mm I might take a rifle up on a roof......for god's sake, what's wrong with having a background in focus? Ditto long exposures of water around rocks, water in a stream looking smokey etc etc....these images used to be on the cover of Amateur Photographer 20 years ago, and they were overdone then. Have a look at the landscape section of the World Photography Awards to see how dated most of the landscape work here is. And please, enough of the sunsets.
I've spent my entire career working in photography and art direction. I've also lectured, given portfolio reviews, won awards and been lucky enough to live all over the world, with the exception of South America, where I've only been for four weeks in Argentina, when I was shooting the Macy's relaunch as a national US entity, with the Cronenweth brothers. I'd rather like to visit and maybe live in Brazil, but I'm currently back in England after a gap of 20 years, and rather enjoying it........so far.
